Leather for Dining Chair Upholstery
The leather collection we have selected together for Berrydesign is one of the largest and most luxurious available with over 300 colours and 17 different leather grades, giving you premium leathers from one of the oldest British tanneries. Our leather supplier blends together traditional tanning skills with modern technology, to do things to leather that have never been possible do before, creating superior materials that break new ground, bringing you a collection of leathers that are lighter, softer, more comfortable ,durable and easier to maintain.
Leather is the most natural and oldest fabric known to mankind, created almost by accident by Neanderthal man, after skinning their catch, and leaving it by their fire to dry.
Of course, every hide is different, and a single large hide will provide enough leather for either two leather dining chairs or a single arm chair. Leather is a natural product and it's beauty is enhanced by the occasional surface blemish and subtle differences in texture and shade. These are their hallmarks and they differentiate genuine leather from other "processed leathers" trying to emulate it. Inevitably there may be slight colour variations from batch to batch, and from hide to hide, and we carefully cut the hides in order to achieve the best "picture" possible for each chair, followed by skilled leather stitching by hand to create our characteristic "twin stitch" seam detail.
Our leathers vary from distressed rugged looks to buttersoft nubuck hides with velveteen naps; and from waxy hides with cracked antique effects, giving a worn aged look, to slightly waxy hides with a silky glaze suitable for the most luxurious of interior lifestyles.
All our leathers either meet or exceed the current UK/EEC standards for fire and safety regulations.
At Berrydesign, we have a rigorous commitment to quality and representative samples from all our ranges are continually checked for suitability, reliability and stain resistance to achieve the correct balance of being able to "see a natural material" being used in its best possible way.
