Wood Polish
If in doubt about which polish you need, please do not hesitate to ring us on 01635 255352 and we can check your files
We specialise in our oil based finishes which we painstakingly apply over a whole week, coat after coat of oil, carefully hand sanding, in-between each successive layer, so that the full beauty of the timber is brought out by the oils sinking deep into the heart of the wood, rather than sitting on the surface.
This treatment which almost saturates the timber grain also gives the timber the advantage of increasing the strength of its own natural oils found within the timber, so when damage occurs to the surface, it can be easily be removed, and easily re-polished to its full glory, by you.
Our polishes work in different ways on different timbers so here is a guide to what is best on what timbers
Oakwood natural wax finish:
This is a more traditional cabinet maker’s finish applied to solid Oak, Cherry, maple and Walnut furniture, which is worked into the surface of the timber and hand polished to bring out the timber grain and mellows with a slight yellowing to the timber. Our price lists are based on this price and gives a light protection rating of 2/10.
Parkwood oil based finish:
A deeper oil which bites into the depth of the timber tones giving stronger timber grain definition with a more matt finish than Strawood. Works well on solid Oak and solid Wild Walnut timbers. Medium protection 6/10 rating. Adds +4% to the basic price list.
Strawood oil based finish:
A warmer mid toned finish which brings out the full depth of the wood grain timbers such as Oak, Walnut, Cherry and Maple, with a soft lustrous glow. A skilful blend of oils and hard waxes to provide the greatest strength for any oil based finish, which can also be easily repaired. Medium / high protection 7/10 rating. Adds +5% to the basic price list.
Sandwood oil based finish:
A beautiful polish which due to rather a secret formula and rather a lot of hard work, provides a pale colouring to keep timbers natural in appearance with a very slight lightening of the more porous areas of the timber’s surface. Fantastic with solid Oak and solid Maple furniture designs. Light bright and contemporary. Medium protection 6/10. Adds +7% to the basic price list.
