Our Wood Finishes & Polishes for solid oak, walnut , maple and cherry
We are continually developing wood finishes that bring out the full beauty of our timbers, whilst providing the full sensual feel that you can achieve through using fine hand skills, carefully and lovingly polishing by hand. The practical needs of durability and reparability are also essential ingredients that we apply to our furniture polishing needs.
For all of our timbers we have the choice of using wax finishes, oil based finishes or lacquers or our special blends of them, which can then be polished in different colour tones, to produce our palest natural finishes to the darker “chocolaty” tones of wenge, ebony and walnut finishes.
Waxes are suitable for items where light use is expected such as bookshelves and console tables and chest of drawers whereas the oils and lacquers are more suitable for heavy use.
The lacquers that we use are the results of blending the strongest synthetic coatings for a wipe clean finish and having the advantage of being maintenance free with the strongest initial finish. When lacquers do become damaged, due to strong direct heat, or from being scratched, they do have the disadvantage of not being able to be repaired in a domestic situation. Extending dining tables polished in lacquer can suffer from a colour difference in-between the main exposed table top, and the table flap if used only occasionally (we suggest you regularly allow you butterfly flaps to see daylight to prevent this happening, by opening up your table when you are away, and having the flap extension at the brightest end of the room).
Oil based finishes are slightly weaker than a lacquer finish but have the greatest advantage that when damaged can be sanded and re-polished, rather like re-polishing your scuffed shoes!
We specialise in our oil based finishes which we painstakingly apply over a whole week, coat after coat of oil, carefully hand sanding, in-between each successive layer, so that the full beauty of the timber is brought out by the oils sinking deep into the heart of the wood, rather than sitting on the surface.,
This treatment which almost saturates the timber grain also gives the timber the advantage of increasing the strength of its own natural oils found within the timber, so when damage occurs to the surface, it can be easily be removed, and easily re-polished to its full glory, by you.
Everything you need to maintain your furniture at home.
